“Every Nation” was recorded with a live audience in Ambassador Auditorium in Pasadena, California. The live performances capture Conant’s’ passion to spur on the global missions movement. Review:

There is a lot of passion contained on this live album poured out from Lindy Conant and the Circuit Riders band that play in support, but also from the gathered audience for this live recording. From the very start the songs overflow with the thankfulness that we are saved and the desire to see God pour out His Spirit across the nations. It’s not just the singing but the pleas and the prayers and the prophetic words that come through in the beginnings, middle and ends of the tracks.

Lindy Conant joined YWAM (Youth With A Mission) in 2007 because she wanted to find a way to reach the lost, she was asked to lead worship in a YWAM gathering at the age of 19 and it became clear that her missional heart and sensitivity to the Spirit was a powerful combination. Since then she has been released to work with YWAM on college campus with this ministry to reach people for Jesus and seeing hundreds coming to Christ through the 7 different bands now touring college campuses across the US. Outside of this mission focus Lindy has led worship at conferences for Jesus Culture and other conferences and is becoming known as an authentic worshipper and an exciting worship leader.. This live album recorded in Pasadena certainly confirms these descriptions.

For once this album bears out the “live” tag, because the producer, Gabrielle Wilson, has said that this is 99% what happened on the recording night. This automatically raises the artist in my books because what’s the point in buying a live album that has been over dubbed? This album then manages to catch the rawness of the moment, enthusiasm and passion from the worship leader through this collection of tracks that are high-energy, but not in the EDM style, but in a more raw guitar-led worship style.

This is a live recording and the vocals are exactly what you would expect, they pulse with the excitement of the live performance and may be a little rougher than you would find on a studio album, but they feel very much ‘in the moment’. Because of the live nature of the album some of the tracks have spontaneous moments which extend their running time somewhat. The title track “Every Nation (Every Soul)” clocks in at just under 8 minutes but it barely feels it with a slow burn start building to great passionate encouragement.

Some of the songs can be a little repetitive but the pictures that are conjured up are great, the freedom of the nations with their chains broken because of the blood of Jesus, the tsunamis of revival crashing on the shores in “Another Wave”. These are very much power pop/rock tracks that really express Lindy’s passion for the subject in the lyrics and the volume and style. I was pleased to hear a gentler sound in “Lay It All Down” where Lindy proves that she can bring the smooth gentler vocal to the listener, however as the track moves on the track moves back to the previous vocal style.

Lindy’s missional message is very much front and centre of this worship, and that’s great because it’s totally Biblical and it’s nice to be reminded in simple terms that Jesus has given His all for us, to rescue us, so we are expected to give our all back to Him. “All Or Nothing” conveys this clearly and “Isaiah 6 (Here I Am Send Me)” shows the ultimate response of being available. This will challenge some of us who think that giving up a couple of hours on a Sunday and throwing some coins in the collection is a sacrifice!

As much as there are challenges given there are also songs of declaration to bolster belief and to remind us of the choice that we made when we chose Jesus. Some of these tracks are very much about our commitment. In less talented hands these tracks could become very self centred, but these songs always reflect this back that it’s because of Jesus and what He has done that we can even contemplate following this path. “Come What May” is one such song, but is still very worshipful. Compared to other tracks the pace and volume here is very pedestrian, it’s very cleverly paced and reflects the nature of the journey that it’s the long haul with joys and difficulties but we will still trust God and follow come what may.

This is an inspiring collection with a brilliant live feel that will sweep you along, yet I hope that it will challenge you to live the faith that we are called to live. To be everyday Christians in the places where we find ourselves. To see the breakthroughs in others because of our faith and our prayers for them. This is a great collection which has something of Darlene Zschech about it. It’s genuine, heart on the sleeve worship and faith life that wants to inspire you to be part of it.
