The AStepFWD team were delighted to attend a listening at Platoon studios earlier this week to sample the latest offering from talented singer-songwriter Ryan Ofei. Singing from the age of six “Mum I really feel that I want to sing and I’m going to explode if I don’t”, Canadian/Ghanaian Ryan Ofei delivers a beautiful selection of deep and worshipful songs on his new EP produced to a very high standard for easy listening.
Initially emerging from Ottawa group Campus Rush Music as songwriter and worship pastor, Ryan has subsequently toured extensively across North America, Europe and Africa. In 2021 he joined Maverick City Music as a songwriter appearing on three of their albums. Many may not know that Ryan Ofei was born in the UK and spent his first two years in Sutton, South of London. At a squeeze we can perhaps claim some very early influences, although the focus and inspiration for Limitless Worship: Accra comes not only from his deep contemplative faith and relationship, but also from connecting with his Ghanaian heritage where he spent his early years.
The EP begins with worshipful ‘Hail The Name’, followed by previously released single ‘Amen (Wo Awie)’, a treasured collaboration with Ghanaian worship leader Joe Mettle. Powerful focus track ‘King of Heaven’ was born over zoom during the pandemic. Reflecting on Psalm 105 and God’s loyalty inspired one of Ryan’s own favourites ‘So Wonderful’. Finishing Limitless Worship: Accra fittingly with afro vibes is ‘With Me, reminding us that the lion always watches over us in every situation, we are never alone.
