Representing the 1.6 million NHS workers serving the world’s 22nd largest country by population (63.5 million estimated by the United Nations) Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Choir yesterday secured the 2015 Official Charts Christmas Number 1 ahead of Justin Beiber, Adele, One Direction and other music heavyweights with their charity single ‘A Bridge Over You’.
It’s been the closest Christmas chart battle since Rage Against The Machine’s exciting victory over The X Factor’s Joe McElderry in 2009 and Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Choir clinched the top spot. They’ve only gone and done it! The NHS Choir topple global pop heavyweight Justin Bieber to secure the UK’s Official Christmas Number 1 2015.
With total combined chart sales of 127,000, nearly 31,000 ahead of their rivals the NHS Choir told OfficialCharts.com: “We are absolutely overwhelmed and couldn’t be any happier!
“It’s a brilliant celebration for the NHS across the country so well done and thank you everyone for downloading and streaming. A massive cheer for the NHS, thank you!”
The NHS Choir’s A Bridge Over You was released in support of the hard work done by doctors, nurses, midwives and many others in the NHS. Proceeds from the single are going to charities including Carers UK and Mind.
Please continue to support this worthy cause and purchase ‘A Bridge Over You‘ now.
Massive Congrats Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Choir!
