Joel Colthart said, in response to his 2013 EP and track titled Tell The Nations,”I personally have done this through living my life and doing life with people. Allowing people into your world lets people see the God in you. Also I have been on various missions around the world including Jamaica, Ghana, Brazil and Belgium to tell and show people the love of Christ.”
In giving some insight into his musical upbringing, he said, “My family is a very musical family as most families brought up in church. My Grandad was the Pastor of Emmanuel Christian Centre and my Dad Andy Colthart was the worship leader for many years. I have many good memories of singing in worship, even going to America with our church worship team. Growing up I learnt piano and more recently I have started to dabble on the bass and acoustic guitar. What is funny in my house it’s actually my older brother Matt Colthart who is the musical one!”
When asked who were his musical influences and the worship leaders who have helped or inspired him, he responded, “I have many influences and what has shaped me most in terms of my preference of music is my Dad! Although he’s a white guy from Scotland he has always loved black gospel music!! Therefore my preference is more to gospel music. But someone who has been my biggest influence is Israel Houghton, which I think you can tell from ‘Tell the Nations’. A lot of other people have also inspired and influenced me including Noel Robinson, Kirk Franklin, Aaron Keyes, Chris McClarney, Matt Redman and Pastor Doug Williams (Paradise)!”
There is a revival coming and already we can feel the undercurrents with tracks such as this that inspire us to follow Jesus’ command to go and proclaim the gospel. Definitely one of Step FWD’s favorite emerging artists and one to keep an eye on. Purchase his music on iTunes, follow and like on FACEBOOK | TWITTER
