Known for his Reggae, Dancehall and Soca hits for many years, Sherwin Gardner is now moving in a new direction that he is no stranger to, praise and worship. A worship leader since age 10, Sherwin is excited to return to what he calls his first love. “My heart has always been to see people freely worship God and live a life of worship”, said Gardner.
Though we have become accustomed to Sherwin’s energetic music, he says that he must be obedient to the direction that God is taking his ministry. However, according to Sherwin, we can expect his new album to be a blend of his unique style – praise and worship with a Caribbean flair.
What God is doing for this young singer’s career is nothing compared to how he moved during Sherwin’s birth. The middle of seven siblings, Sherwin’s arrival into the world was nothing short of a miracle. His mother had fallen ill and doctors feared she had cancer. Thankfully, the tests were negative, but it was discovered that she was 20 weeks into a pregnancy of which she was unaware. She was advised to abort the fetus for fear that it would either jeopardize her life or bear a deformed child. However, despite several warnings from doctors, she refused to have an abortion and Sherwin was born healthy and whole. It is this testimony that gave birth to Gardner’s new single “Because of You” which was released on his birthday, February 14th.
This powerful single is just the beginning. Sherwin will be recording his new worship album and DVD on April 16th at his home church, the SJPC House of Restoration Ministries in Antigua. Having witnessed firsthand Sherwin’s anointed & enigmatic presence, at his recent London visit gracing the stage to support Annastasia Baker, we have no doubt it promises to be a wonderful and powerful time of ministry.
