Faith Child celebrates first MOBO Awards Best Gospel win

Gospel MC Faith Child scored his first MOBO Award for Best Gospel Act at the inaugural Pre-MOBO Awards show earlier on this week. “I thank God, first and foremost for this award, family, friends and the church,” he said when collecting his award.

Grammy, Stellar, Dove Awards nominee and American gospel music star Marvin Winans Jr flew in to London especially to host the Pre-MOBO Awards Show. The invite-only music event and a first of its kind in MOBO history shone the spotlight on the UK’s best trailblazing talents in R&B, Soul, Jazz and Gospel music.

When interviewed by MOBO Awards after his nomination back in 2010 (the year fellow UK Rapper and colleague Guvna B won Best Gospel Act) Faith Child had this to say “Be the best you can be. Don’t try to be better than your peers, try to be better than yourself! Why be a copy when you can be an original? Keep God first in all you do…”

Not only has the OH TV Uprise Music Ambassador lived up to his own advice but he has also exceeded even his own expectations, having been nominated for a whopping 5 awards in the past 5 weeks as mentioned in an interview on the Premier Gospel Breakfast Show earlier on this week. Away from the accolades and awards Faith Child has a real heart for ministry and enjoys serving in his local church where he was recently ordained a Deacon.

Faith Child has appeared in the Step FWD UK Christian Chart with the #2 track ‘Tunnel Vision’ featuring Da T.R.U.T.H. in December 2014 and again in May this year with his single ‘Ricochet’ which featured Matt Lee Hunter scoring a #3 position. His latest album Airborne also made it to the Top 5 of the UK Christian and Gospel charts a few months ago.

Other nominees in the 2015 Gospel category included Cho3en, Ni-cola, Olaedo Ibe and Leroy Johnson who all celebrated with Faith Child after his win. Special performances on the night came from Julia Biel (Best Jazz Act nominee), Lurine Cato, Annastasia Baker, Dora Martin, Misha B, and Faith Child (Best Gospel Act winner) to name a few.

Highlights from the Pre-MOBO Awards Show will be broadcast during the MOBO Awards ceremony on 4 November at Leeds’ First Direct Arena. Live broadcast takes place on ITV2 at 8pm and will be repeated on ITV1 on 6 November at 10.40pm.
