Sermon of the Year 2020 encourages and celebrates the art of preaching. Whether you’re a preacher of many years standing or writing your first sermon, we invite you to take part. We welcome entries from all denominations and from across the UK. All you need to do is to demonstrate that you have the passion and potential to communicate the Word of God.

The format for the event is:

• Submission of sermons by email

• Shortlisting based on set criteria (see guidelines below)

• Finalists will preach their submitted sermons before a live audience
  The friendly, experienced judging panel will decide the winner and runner-up
  Location: St Paul’s Hammersmith, London
  Date: Thursday 25 June 2020.

How to enter

The first stage is to craft your sermon of 1500 words on the theme of Made by God. We believe in the power of God’s Word and the inspiration of the Holy Spirit that bring encounters with God when people preach and others hear them.

Submitting your sermon

Send your sermon to editor@lwpt.org.uk by midnight on Sunday 23 February 2020.

Your sermon must be close to 1500 words (give or take 10). Word or text files will be accepted but not PDFs. See points 5 and 6 of the Terms and Conditions for details about content and formatting your sermon.

You must include:

•   your name, address, contact numbers, date of birth

•   how many sermons you have preached: first one, 1-20, 20-50, over 50

• denomination and, if relevant, position in church

• where you heard about Sermon of the Year.

Sermon of the Year top ten book

The top ten shortlisted sermons will be published by Preach and available to purchase. This is a non-profit publication to record the best of each year’s entries. Sales go towards the costs of production.

The final

The top four finalists will be invited to preach their sermon live in front of an audience and a panel of friendly judges.

This year, the final event will take place on Thursday 25 June 2020 at St Paul’s, Hammersmith (London, W6). Doors open 6pm. Tickets are available now.
