Jodi Anderson publicly known as Just Jodi is an musically diverse, soulful singer and songwriter from Sheffield, UK. “Her songs find beauty in the mundane and transmit it perfectly to the listener with the endearing skill and charisma of a true raconteur.” – James Tait Just Jodi has recently written and released her debut EP “Closer” in February 2016. An eccentric Just Jodi’s comment on her EP, “It’s going to be very eclectic I think because whilst I love my stripped back acousticness with just me and a guitar, I do love a heavy beat and I want my listeners to be able to have a dance to my music and feel the base pounding through their bones!” Jodi plays the guitar and hand percussion drums such as the Cajon and the Toca drum and has a Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree in Performing Arts. Just Jodi creates positive and uplifting music about love happiness and friendship. Her influences stretch far and wide from India Arie, Stevie Wonder and Erykah Badu, to Paramore, Rudimental and The Script. HISTORY Being described as a mix between Joss Stone, Lianne La Havas and Florence and the Machine, she still has a high element of individuality that people just cant seem to put a pin on. Jodi Anderson began her music career as a Cajon player/ backing vocalist in the modern Acoustic Folk band from Sheffield called Upside along with band members Conor Murphy (Lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist) and Lewis Mason (Backing vocalist, Lead guitarist). They started out by playing open Mic nights in a small bar in Sheffield called The Red House, Solly but were fortunate enough to become one of the grand finalists in the Live and Unsigned competition and therefore played at the O2 Arena, London. In January 2012, after being together for 2 years gigging up to 3 times per week in and around Sheffield, multiple features on Sheffield Live Radio and in the Sheffield Star, Upside decided to split. Jodi Anderson became Just Jodi and began her series of solo gigs, featuring her and a guitar. She has played with and alongside some amazing artists such as Steve Edwards, LZ7, Lurine Cato, Philippa Hanna, Isaiah Raymond Dyer, Guvna B and many more. Just Jodi’s music is often played on Mixtape at Sheffield Life, 93.2Fm and has been played on BBC Radio Sheffield Introducing. Her single ‘Higher’ co-written in 2014 with Electrospective is available on iTunes, Amazon, Google play and many more. Just Jodi has featured as one of the artists at The Sunday Show in Leicester Square, London and at The Big Church Day Out Festival in May 2014. CURRENT Just Jodi is one part of the Electrospective trio. Electrospective are an electronic music trio, from the Midlands and Sheffield UK. Consisting of cousins Vision and Jdrums, with singer and songwriter Jodi. Vision, Jdrums and Jodi are musicians, producers and songwriters, creating catchy, sweet sounding, radio friendly music, promising to give you the “ELECTROSPECTIVE” sound. With her most recent song submitted to the March 2016 UK Christian Chart I asked Just Jodi how she navigates the Christian/secular divide. She answered, “All of my music is written either to Jesus or inspired by Jesus himself or by the Christian life and my choice to follow Christ. I wanted my music to be easily accessible so that people who don’t know Jesus could relate to it and see that it is actually cool to be a Christian. There has always been this stereotype that Christians are boring and only listen to/sing hymns but being “A Christian” isn’t actually what it seems. It brings so much fun, happiness and freedom that I want to use my music to allow people to meet Jesus and see what amazing things he can do in people’s life’s.” Have a listen again to the Electrospective produced track ‘Rising’ byJust Jodi and ft. Jada, described by one of our music contributors as ‘…very chilled track, perfectly executed on all fronts’.
