In relationships whether dating or marriage, it often is the case that only one person is a believer in Christ. Mostly unintentional it happens and if not thought about initially you may find (or have found) yourself in a predicament. Lets turn to the book of Corinthians…
2 Corinthians 6:14 Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness?
1 Corinthians 15:33 Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.”
1 Corinthians 7:12-15 If any brother has a wife who is an unbeliever, and she consents to live with him, he should not divorce her. If any woman has a husband who is an unbeliever, and he consents to live with her, she should not divorce him. For the unbelieving husband is made holy because of his wife, and the unbelieving wife is made holy because of her husband. Otherwise your children would be unclean, but as it is, they are holy.
From these scriptures the message that comes across to me is that God want us to be among others like minded in order to live a righteous life and consequently not be led astray from the straight and narrow path he has set for us. However, if a couple have vowed to one another and are committed then God’s anointing not only covers the partner but the children also as it is better to have Christian company than to be yoked with the world.
As with every scripture, there can be varying interpretations. What’s your opinion?
