SPACNation’s Hope Dealers use “Gospel Drill” music to spread good news

Scouring through the internet as we do and geeky workaholics that we are, we came across this piece of journalism from The Times newspaper. It is a Sunday and a group of young men, some in balaclavas, stand before a crowd to perform a brand of hip-hop described as “demonic” by the father of one gangland murder victim.

These rappers have chosen God over the Devil, however. Like hip-hop choirboys, the Hope Dealers group have fused the controversial genre of “drill” music with the Christian message of gospel to create “gospel drill”. They rap about redemption in front of 1,000 churchgoers in London, hoping to rescue youths from a gang culture that some of the performers were once part of themselves.
