Clapton Chimonyo is a young singer-songwriter whose passion is to re-introduce a God who is constantly introducing himself to the world. Clapton desires to portray God in His simplest form where people see Him from the lenses of acceptance, wholeness, and fatherhood. Clapton believes that the Gospel is not just good news, but that it is the simple good news. Below he shares his thoughts & inspirations about his newest single ‘King of Heaven‘:
“‘King of Heaven’ was originally birthed & titled ‘Death Where Is Your Sting’ after meditating on 1 Corinthians 15:55 (“Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?”). It originated from a place of anguish, hurt, pain, confusion & mental torment with where my life was and where my future was going. I felt this way due to a lot of disappointment and reoccurring bad news.”
“I almost had to laugh at my situation in order to find a glimpse of hope because everything around me felt like it was all falling apart. It was almost as if everyone just stood by watching and couldn’t hear my CRY or SCREAM for help. It was within my loneliness & blackhole that I realised only JESUS can & will leave everything just to stand by you and be with you. I realised at that point that friends, family and everyone will always fail but God won’t.“
“So, this song is for that person out there who may be struggling with life, mental health and just everything, just like I was. Someone who feels alone. Who feels like they’re crying for a helping hand; a simple phone call from someone offering prayer to help you. This is that prayer from me to you. The prayer I never got from people, but one that Jesus sang over me saying “OH DEATH WHERE IS YOUR STING ON CLAPTON!” I hope this song gives you the strength to STAND and know there is MORE to life and your future.”
Clapton began leading worship a few years ago when he decided to teach himself how to play the guitar and to sing because he felt like the people who already knew how to do what he couldn’t do always made excuses. He wanted to be the one to rise up in the name of Jesus. Unknown to him, Clapton was only fulfilling destiny as he was named after one of the greatest musicians of all time: Eric Clapton. His eagerness to translate the heart of the Father through beautiful melodies and songs was further inspired by the likes of Jeremy Riddle, Housefires and Bethel Music.
Clapton is also the founder of the Tehillah Worship – a group that hoes to greatly impact and shape multiple communities within the UK and worldwide – was birthed from a prophetic word from God. The heart of Tehillah Worship is to build a thriving & worshipping community that is fuelled by love, passion, and authenticity. This group is made up of a variety of leaders who share the same enthusiasm to see nations transformed through worship.
