The award-winning University Gospel Choir of the Year (UGCY) finals is back this spring! The choirs have submitted their entries and the judges, after much deliberation, have selected the top university Gospel choirs to battle it out and take home the prestigious UGCY 2017 title.
UGCY provides an unprecedented platform for University Gospel Choirs across the UK and in Ghana (West Africa) to develop and showcase their musical abilities. Since its 2011 launch, UGCY has held six UK annual competitions in prestigious London venues, and a successful televised maiden Ghanaian edition with the finals held at Ghana’s National Theatre. They have had numerous appearances on on multiple events and platforms all celebrating the talents of over 5000 individuals from various universities across the UK and Ghana.
After achieving success in 2016 with features in The X-Factor, Britain’s Got Talent, the BBC Gospel Proms, Sister Act Live Choir Cinema Experience and Taste London, UGCY is aiming to stage the most spectacular show yet.
The esteemed judges who will preside over which choir is crowned UGCY 2017 are, Mark De-Lisser (Director to ACM Gospel Choir) and London Community Gospel Choir directors Ayo and Stephanie Oyerinde. Gospel MOBO Award Winner Rachel Kerr will also be back to host the show, which will take place at the historic Hippodrome in the heart of North West London.
