To close our series of #StepFWDTips, we caught up with some amazing UK music artists to ask them about their most valuable tips and advice. Stay tuned to see what they had to say about their most creative sparks and spaces! Today’s guest is the wonderful Nia Ekanem. Read on to find out what creative space he’s currently using down in Camden, London – It’s a pretty neat deal if you ask me.
Hey, how is it going? Please tell us a little bit about yourself!
I’m Nia, a young artist who is from Birmingham but is currently based in London. I have been doing music now for 3 years, as a singer-songwriter. I used to be in a rap group before the whole singing thing came about. My music is described as Acoustic Soul, but I prefer the term ‘Organic’.
I’ve been listening to your music since I heard you in Birmingham years ago! Organic…I’d say! What is your understanding of musical excellence?
Simply put. Please tell us when and where are you most creative
I am most creative around 10pm, just myself, my guitar, my thoughts and a note book.
Are there any local creative spaces that you like to use for rehearsals, collaborations, meetings etc…? Please give us the plug!
I’ve signed up for a young emerging artist project in the Roundhouse in Camden and that’s where I go for songwriting with other artist etc.
Yes, I’ve done my research on this project and I think its pretty helpful really! What advice would you give to a new UK based artist, wanting to pursue their music?
Just keep pushing, don’t look back and put in the work.
No looking back, Love that! A bit of fun – what would be your perfect holiday scenario?
Hmmm, I would say in a tropical island with pure silence and just me and my guitar. 🙂
Thank you for spending some time with us. Is there anything we should be excited for soon? Where can we find your updates?
I will keep an eye out for sure. We wish you the very best in your endeavours Nia and we can’t wait to hear from you soon!
Thank you for having me :).
